No show Friday, March 24

Hey everyone,

Due to technical difficulties, we won’t be able to show Emily tonight (Friday, March 24, 2023).

We fully intend to show the film on Saturday and Sunday night; just the Friday show is affected.
We’re really sorry about this but it’s beyond our control.

See you at the movies! (just not tonight)

Technical Difficulties

Sigh.

We’re ready; you’re ready; but apparently our projector has hit the snooze button, looking for a couple more weeks of rest.

We’ve run into a bit of a snag with our projection system, and unfortunately we won’t be able to show movies on the date we’d hoped. We’re working hard behind the scenes to get everything sorted out, and are planning for a new start date of October 14, 2022. Our plan is to shift out movie dates forward on the calendar, but we need to make sure that still works with our film booking partners, and so we’re pulling down our schedule for now.

We know you were looking forward to this; we sure were, too. We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated. Watch this space!

See you at the movies (even if it’s a little later in the year than we’d all hoped).

Volunteer Mark Delmage passes away

We are very saddened to say that Mark Delmage, our friend, fellow volunteer, teacher, pilot, mentor and familiar face of the Evans Theatre, died on Friday, January 8.

Mark was part of the Brandon Film Festival family for nearly 50 years and led from the front, taught by the side, and pushed us from behind. Both as a teacher at St Johns Ravenscourt and as a leader in the 82nd Air Squadron (Air Cadets), he was dedicated to making better men and women of the youth in his charge. He had no children of his own but there are many who have been taught as if they were.

Mark was an extremely dedicated projectionist, and while his heart beat with the tempo of the old film projectors, he embraced the new technology. He was key to helping the Evans enter the new digital era.

We miss him greatly, and when there is time in the future for us to get together safely and remember him, we will.

A tribute memorial movie in Mark’s honour will be arranged  at the Evans theatre at a future date.

You may leave a note in honour of Mark on Brockie Donovan’s site.

Until then, stay home, stay safe, and we’ll see you at the movies.

Evans Spring Season Cancelled

In order to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the volunteers of the Evans Theatre film programme have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Spring movie series.

We thank our dedicated volunteers and our faithful audience for a great year so far, and we look forward to seeing you all in September 2020, when we re-launch with new films.

See you at the movies.

Rest assured that we still intend to do everything we can to show these two movies; we’re just waiting on solid dates from our distributors. As soon as we know for sure when they’ll play, they’ll appear here on our website.
